Against the breathtaking backdrop of the Swiss Alps lies a city that enchants every visitor with its beauty and charm: Bern.
The capital of Switzerland not only impresses with its picturesque location on the River Aare, but also with its rich history, fascinating architecture and vibrant culture. From the cobbled streets of the Old Town to the green hills of the Rose Garden, Bern offers a multitude of sights and activities to discover.
What makes Bern so special? Perhaps it’s the majestic presence of Bern Cathedral, whose Gothic towers tower over the city’s rooftops. Or the historic Zähringer fountains, which tell stories from times gone by with their imaginative figures. Perhaps it is also the relaxed atmosphere of the banks of the Aare, where locals and visitors alike enjoy the sun and cool off in the clear water.
But to really get to know Bern, you have to go off the beaten track. This is where the Bern Foxtrails come into play. Our trails offer a new perspective on the city by taking visitors on an exciting scavenger hunt through the streets and alleyways. With tricky puzzles and hidden clues, the Foxtrails lead participants to Bern’s hidden treasures while learning about the city’s history and culture.
Foxtrail Granit – Bern City
Whether neighbourhoods, the Aare or the old town – Granit offers you a varied tour through Bern. After starting at the railway station, you will pass through the pretty Schönegg district and the banks of the River Aare. You cross the river to reach the famous Dählhölzli zoo. Afterwards, the next animal beckons: on the banks of the Aare, you will come across the “Mutzen”, as the bears are known here, in the famous bear park. The footpath then takes you through the Matten neighbourhood and along the Aare. Then it’s uphill to the cathedral platform. You stop at Bern Minster to admire the highest church tower in Switzerland before the historic Old Town with the Zytglogge tower beckons.
Foxtrail Marble – Bern City
A little nature, a little urban, a little old town? Marble combines everything in one excursion. In the outskirts of Tiefenau, the trail leads through the forest and down into the idyllic Felsenau neighbourhood. It then follows the River Aare to the Bremgarten tunnel and from there back to the city centre. The urban part of the trail takes you on foot across Waisenhausplatz and to Altenbergsteg. After a walk through the old town, you arrive at Kornhausplatz, where the end of the trail is approaching.
Foxtrail Schiefer – Bern City
Schiefer takes you to Bern’s Old Town, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. High above the Aare loop is the beautifully landscaped rose garden, which offers you a unique view over the city. Can you recognise the Bundeshaus? Fredy’s trail continues past the historic Nydegg Church to the Fountain of Justice, a cultural heritage site of national importance. Then it’s down to the Aare, where you can admire the Schwellenmätteli in the middle of the river. After the walk through the Marzili quarter, the cable car takes you directly to the Bundesterrasse, where you can now see the Federal Palace up close. You will soon reach the end of the trail in the Old Town.
