After the beautiful weather at the weekend and the continued positive weather outlook, you may be drawn back outside and onto one of our fantastic trails. In this article, we present seven recommended Foxtrails that will take you through picturesque landscapes and charming towns.
1st Foxtrail Marble – Bern City
Marmor combines nature, urbanity and old town flair. The trail starts in the outlying district of Tiefenau, leads through the forest, into the idyllic Felsenau district and on along the River Aare to the city centre. Here it goes via Waisenhausplatz, past the Altenbergsteg, through the old town to Kornhausplatz.
2nd Foxtrail Castello – Thun
The Castello Trail promises pleasant hours by the water. The starting point is the Gwatt neighbourhood, from where you follow the beach path and walk along Lake Thun. Highlights include the Grunderinseli and Schadau Castle against an impressive mountain backdrop. The trail takes you through the city centre to the lock bridge over the Aare.
3rd Foxtrail Granit – Bern city centre
Granit offers a varied tour through Bern. From the railway station, the trail leads through the charming Schönegg district, along the River Aare to the famous Dählhölzli zoo and on through the historic Matten district. The trail leads up to the cathedral platform, where you can admire the imposing Bern Cathedral, before continuing through the historic old town to the Zytglogge tower.
4th Foxtrail Emma – Langnau im Emmental, Schüpfheim
The Emma Trail takes you into the paradisiacal nature of the Emmental and the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. The starting point is either Langnau or Schüpfheim (you can choose), and the trail takes you through beautiful natural scenery to Trubschachen. The duration varies depending on the train connection, and the return journey is included in the ticket.
5th Foxtrail Cityfox – Thun
Cityfox offers breathtaking views of the city, lake and mountains. From Brahmsquai, the trail climbs step by step up to Jakobshübeli. The trail leads past the church of St. Beatus, through a residential area of Thun, back into the city centre via well-known squares to the castle park and finally to the historic pavilion.
6th Foxtrail Schiefer – Bern city centre
Schiefer takes you to Bern’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the Rose Garden you can enjoy a unique view over the city, pass the historic Nydegg Church, the Fountain of Justice and admire the Schwellenmätteli. After a walk through the Marzili neighbourhood, the cable car takes you to the Bundesterrasse, where you can see the Bundeshaus up close.
7th Foxtrail treasure – Thun
The Schatz Trail starts from Thun railway station in the picturesque village of Hünibach. The trail leads through the forest to Hilterfingen, along the boat quay through a pretty neighbourhood to Hünegg Park with the magnificent Hünegg Castle. The return to Thun leads through the old town, past the Schlossberg and the town church, with a view of the Schleusenbrücke bridge just before the finish.
