1st Wildegg Castle

Wildegg Castle was built by the Habsburgs in the 13th century. The Effinger family lived in it for eleven generations. Today, the castle with its baroque rooms can be hired for events.

2 Two districts, one municipality

Wildegg is a district of the municipality of Möriken-Wildegg, which was known simply as Möriken until 1945. The two districts of Wildegg and Möriken are just over a kilometre apart. While Wildegg lies where the Aabach flows into the Aare, Möriken is located a little further up in the Bünztal valley on a gravel terrace at the foot of the Chestenberg, which is up to 647 metres high.

The Wildegg Military Museum is dedicated to Swiss military equipment from the Second World War up to the year 2000. The rich collection focuses on vehicles, guns, aeroplanes and tanks.

Wildegg is a district of the municipality of Möriken-Wildegg in the district of Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau. Wildegg lies in the centre of the canton, where the Aabach flows into the Aare.

History

Wildegg was first mentioned in a document in 1242. Wildegg Castle was built by the Habsburgs in the 13th century. In the 15th century, the castle passed to the von Effinger family, who lived there until 1912.

Traffic

Wildegg is connected to public transport by the Aarau-Brugg S-Bahn line. The municipality also has a motorway connection.

Education

There is a primary school and a secondary school in Wildegg.
